Technology

Dynamotive has developed two innovative technologies from its Waterloo Research Facility: Fast Pyrolysis and Bingo (Biomass INto GasOil). These two technologies complement each other where Fast Pyrolysis creates a renewable BioOil, and BINGO refines it into clean usable mobile fuels.

Fast Pyrolysis

Fast Pyrolysis uses cellulosic biomass from agricultural or forestry residues, and converts them into a clean burning liquid fuel known as BioOil. This BioOil is comparable to Fuel Oil and can be used in a variety of applications from energy generation in turbines, and heating applications in boilers and lime kilns. The process also produces CQuest BioChar which are solid particles formed in the Fast Pyrolysis process that can also be used in heating applications, or in an agricultural setting to aid in substantial crop improvements.

Dynamotive has developed Bench-Scale Plants, a 15TPD Pilot Plant, a 130TPD Plant in West Lorne, ON and a 200TPD Plant in Guelph, ON.

BINGO

BINGO uses BioOil as a feedstock and refines it into mobile fuel quality oil. There are numerous applications for this clean burning fuel, and Dynamotive is currently working on scaling this technology.

The process has inherent advantages over one step biomass to transport fuel methods as it allows for production flexibility and specialization of know how at the various production levels. This results in reduced risk, flexibility in production, lower capital costs and lower production costs as a result of synergies available in pyrolysis production and upgrading to transport fuels. It is also important to note that the process has been demonstrated to have equal or higher yields than competing processes (up to 25% higher yields to some) and has lower hydrogen consumption at the upgrading level.
